What is an illuminated globe?

An illuminated globe is typically a transparent or partially transparent sphere made of acrylic or crystal glass. A light source is installed inside the globe. The map design is applied to the surface and becomes beautifully illuminated from within when the light is switched on.

What types of illuminated globes are there?

Illuminated globes generally come in two main types: table globes and floor-standing globes. There are also different map designs available. Some models feature a single political map that appears the same whether the globe is lit or unlit. Others offer so-called dual-image cartography, where a physical map is visible when the globe is unlit, and a political map appears when it is illuminated.
