A visit to the Germanisches Nationalmuseum – the Behaim Globe

A visit that was long overdue.

The world’s oldest surviving globe. It shows how people viewed the world in the Middle Ages.
However, the darker sides of human history also played a part. This globe reflects a time of exploitation and the slave trade.
In 2023, this globe, which is housed at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg, was inscribed on the UNESCO Memory of the World Register.

If you would like to find out more about this globe, you will find a very comprehensive website run by the Germanisches Nationalmuseum.
